Hello Oregon, Hello KOBI!

Evaluating edtech solutions that value student data privacy has become a difficult and time-consuming process for schools.

Thanks to the national alliance, the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC), this process has been drastically optimized, making it easier for other schools to choose from edtech solutions like KOBI that respect their student’s privacy.

For that, Hopalai, the company behind KOBI, recently signed the Student Data Privacy Agreement for Oregon to enable schools and districts to join this agreement knowing that their student’s data privacy is preserved.

Privacy: a Fundamental Right

We believe that child data privacy is a fundamental right and we are committed to doing everything in our power to protect it. We are proud to be a trusted partner for students, educators, and families, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that student data is kept safe and secure.

KOBI by design does not require a child to disclose any personal information to use it. This has been a conscious decision and requirement from day 1. Data that is processed and maintained is solely for the purpose of providing reading progress insights.

Secondly, we follow all relevant laws and regulations when it comes to data privacy. This includes the COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act) in the United States and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union.

“We believe that child data privacy is a fundamental right.”

Auke Touwslager, Data Protection Officer at KOBI

In addition to complying with these laws, we are also committed to being transparent about how we process data. Our privacy policy clearly outlines the types of information that we collect. We provide parents, caretakers, and teachers with the opportunity to request their data to be removed from our data storage – at any time.
